Ideas / Tutorials

I was given a subscription to receive a monthly Art Journal box from Let’s Make Art — I’ve really enjoyed watching their video tutorials and adapting their prompts and make them my own. If you are looking for ideas, they’re great.

Supplies

If you are going to use crayons, color pencils or markers, you can do that in your regular journal. If you don’t want lines in your art journal, you can find blank books that have faint dots or unlined, completely blank pages. If you are going to use acrylic paints or water colors, I recommend that you purchase a special journal that has heavier paper, at least 90 lb weight. I have three that I’ve used and can recommend that are between $10-$20. Shop around online as prices can vary substantially between dealers.

Carpe Diem - Traveler’s Notebook Insert - 10 pages - available only from Let’s Make Art.

Strathmore - Mixed Media Art Journal - 64 pages, 90 lb paper (pictured above). It comes in a variety of sizes.

Pentalic Aqua Journal - 48 pages, 140 lb paper (pictured above). This journal is best for water coloring. Notice that this journal is 8” wide and 5” tall and is bound on the 5” side. Other sizes are available.
